PENISTONE Grammar School has been confirmed as being among the country's top ten per cent of performers in A Level education.

The formula used to calculate the best performers was devised by Greenhead College in Huddersfield and now used as a national measure.

The Advanced Level Performance scale is ranked from one to nine and the grammar school has now received confirmation it has achieved a ranking at the second level, giving the advanced learning centre a classification of 'outstanding', a ranking shared by both of the two top performing groups.

School principal Jo Higgins said: "It is the best ever rating we have had. The focus is on the progress students have made and the quality of teaching and learning."
