OLIVER Rowland continued to pick up points in the Formula E series with a sixth-placed finish in Rome.

The 26-year-old from Penistone had a busy weekend, posing for pictures outside the colosseum and playing in a football match alongside Italy and Roma legend Francesco Totti.

He was unable to replicate his first podium finish of the season in the previous event in China last month but he claimed eight points which left him 12th in the standings while his team Nissan e.dams are seventh.

Rowland said: “I was fastest in the opening practice session, and fourth in the second so qualifying was a little disappointing. I tagged the wall out of turn two, and the car was damaged. Luckily, I was able to squeeze out a lap which put me tenth for the race.

“I made a good start and was up to sixth early. I was fortunate that I didn’t have a lot of pressure from behind, so that was nice. I was able to try a few things during the race and work on energy management which left me with the most available power for the finish.”

The electric car series now moves on to Paris at the end of this month.
