A FINAL decision on proposals to create a new one-way ring-road is expected to be made in July.
Barnsley Council - whose planning board awarded permission for the controversial scheme before Christmas - has a statutory obligation to consult with the public as its plan impacts Penny Pie Park, land which is currently designated as public open space, and a part of it will be lost.
The new road is expected to reduce congestion from junction 37 of the M1 for town centre-bound vehicles but has been fiercely contested by local campaigners.
Bosses will have to demonstrate the land is no longer required before another report is drawn up for ruling cabinet members to discuss, who will then decide its outcome at a meeting on July 10.
