AN ELDERLY man was treated by the head physiotherapist at Barnsley Football Club after he had a heart attack during an exercise session at Oakwell.

Trevor Lockwood, 73, of Westmoor Crescent, Pogmoor, had been taking part in the ‘walking football’ session for older people when he collapsed.

He was tended by the first team physio Craig Sedgewick and treated with a defibrillator until paramedics arrived.

Wayne Bullimore, head of community at Barnsley FC, said: “I’ve been doing this for 15 years and I have never witnessed anything like that - Trevor was playing and he just fell backwards.

“We got funding from the British Heart Foundation for a defibrillator a couple of years ago and it’s been hanging in the office - you never think you’re going to need to use it. We got Craig Sedgewick up and he did a fantastic job.”
