A Darton artist says an action plan needs putting together to foster digital art in the borough.
Martin Hopkins, whose abstract art work features on the Saatchi Gallery website, is urging Barnsley Council and other organisations to embrace digital art and give it a home in Barnsley with a permanent exhibition space.
Martin, 59, of Station Road, has held meetings with Barnsley Council, the Civic, and Barnsley College to discuss his ideas for the future of digital art in Barnsley.
He wants a borough-wide campaign to raise the profile of digital art and for an action plan to be agreed that will guide digital art in the town.
"We are living in a society that is digitally minded but there is nowhere in Barnsley for digital art," said Martin, who used to work in the oil and gas industries before concentrating on his art full time.
"As an artist you have to ask what would bring me into Barnsley rather than Sheffield or Wakefield or Rotherham? What makes us different? Nothing."
