PLANS have gone in for a 4G mobile network mast at Hoyland Common.
Telefónica has applied to install the radio base station on Tankersley Lane as part of an upgrade and redevelopment of an existing base.
However, planners have queried the scheme saying the number of cabinets or units planned was "rather unfortunate" as it could result in a "cluttered appearance."
The applicant has investigated re-siting the units or containing them in a bigger cabinet. But this was not possible as no bigger design was available and underground ducts were already in place.
Comments are being received on the scheme until June 2.
We have been at the heart of our community, every week, since 1858. The town and its people have changed dramatically since then but the Chronicle has been a constant.
It’s our belief that news should be available to everyone regardless of their circumstance. But we need a little helping hand to do so.
Production Editor, Ashley Ball, said: "In an ever changing media world, it’s important that news is reported correctly and without any hidden agenda.
Your support allows us to keep holding decision-makers to account and report on everything that happens in the town, good or bad, fairly."
