A DAMAGED park in Grimethorpe will not be improved due to yobs’ behaviour.

Months of fires, damage and antisocial behaviour has seen the children’s play area at Dell Park become strewn with broken glass, litter and fire-damaged benches - but Barnsley Council has ruled out any future improvement works after deeming it to be at ‘high risk’ of further damage.

Tuesday’s Brierley, Grimethorpe and Shafton Crime and Safety Group meeting, held at The Acorn Centre, heard the results of a meeting with the council’s parks services and the meeting’s chairman, Jayne Ambrose.

“The park has been assessed and it was deemed to be a high risk area,” Jayne said. “No equipment can be replaced because of it as there’s a likelihood that it will be damaged again.”
