Barnsley's first team squad are set to spend the month of June ringing supporters as part of the club’s push to sell season tickets for the 2020/21 campaign.
A total of 25 players are due to each be given the numbers of hundreds of supporters – who have previously agreed for their contact details to be shared. They are due to spend an hour after training every day on the phone.
The Reds have explained their plans for backdating tickets for the 2019/20 campaign and offered 2020/21 season tickets at a flat rate of £249 for adults and £159 for concessions until July 1.
It is currently unknown when next season will start or if fans will be allowed to attend. But they can buy a ‘membership’ – a season ticket – and reserve their seat so, if they are not allowed in the stadium, they can watch games via a live stream at home.
A club statement said: “Doubts surrounding next season are still evident, but without your backing moving forwards, we know that our future as a going concern will be impacted severely. With those uncertainties, we are making a commitment to provide you with value for money, despite the lowest price in a number of years.”
As for the four remaining home games of 2019/20, season ticket holders can either claim a refund, donate the tickets to NHS staff or exchange them for a four-game ‘flexi ticket’. The club described the refund option as ‘morally a necessity’ but warned that, if all season ticket holders took it, the Reds would lose £400,000.
