A CAREERS event will take place at the Digital Media Centre ahead of the NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) centre opening at Capitol Park in the summer.

The event, which will take place on February 8 and will be hosted by NHSBT as well as supported by Barnsley Council, Jobcentre Plus and Barnsley College, will provide information on a variety of career opportunities. These opportunities include healthcare science and support, administration, technology and digital and more. The event is also looking to attract students from any age as a chance to learn about the range of roles that the centre will host and how they can gain a pathway into a future career.

The new centre, located at Dodworth, by Junction 37 of the M1, will distribute blood products, deliver world-class laboratory services, as well as offer the opportunity to create new advanced cell therapies.

There will also be an on-site restaurant, indoor and outdoor seating areas, parking and new training facilities.

Coun Tim Cheetham, cabinet spokesperson for regeneration and culture, said: “We’re delighted to reach this advanced stage with NHSBT as they move closer to becoming operational. We are working closely with the organisation, together with Jobcentre Plus and Barnsley College to support ways in which people can learn about the employment opportunities that will be available at this state of the art facility, as well as how we can support people to secure employment in the future.”

The event will be on on February 8 from 10am to 3pm.
