A FOOTBALL fan was assaulted and missed his stop while travelling home from Barnsley's match with Sheffield United last Saturday.

PC Richard Ward said: "The victim was travelling home to Chapeltown with his wife at about 6pm. As the train approached their stop the couple attempted to leave, but their exit was deliberately blocked.

"A scuffle broke out and the victim's glasses were pulled from his face and smashed.

"The offender then attempted to bend back the victim's hand and the couple missed their stop.

"They managed to move away from the offender who followed them through the train. It was only thanks to the assistance of other passengers that the couple were finally able to exit the train at the next stop, Elsecar."
