POLICE in Barnsley were called out 11 times in a matter of weeks to incidents involving clowns trying to scare people.

The information was released through a Freedom of Information request made to South Yorkshire Police for incidents Barnsley police attended where the the word ‘clown’ featured in the description or record of the incident.

The first was logged on September 21 when a caller reported a group of youths, one wearing a clown mask, were on a street throwing eggs at windows and doors.

A two-week lull in reports was followed by a spate of incidents called in over the course of four days.

Police were contacted on October 7 by a concerned parent whose child said a gang of kids had been chased by a man dressed as a clown.
