HOT weather has been blamed for causing an empty police car to roll down a hill before overturning and crashing into a telegraph pole.

The police car was left upside down on its roof in Carlton Road after the incident last month.

Police launched an investigation after the incident to determine how the car was able to freewheel down the busy road on the morning of Monday May 9.

Bystanders had assumed that the handbrake had been left off by mistake but this week police confirmed in a statement to the Chronicle that the handbrake had been applied at the time.
