POLICE were commemorated for their bravery and dedication at an annual awards ceremony which celebrates Barnsley’s policing heroes.
Held at the town hall, staff, officers and partners were presented with certificates for all of their hard work that they put into their jobs and across the district.
Chief Constable Stephen Watson, Police and Crime Commissioner Dr Alan Billings, and the Mayor of Barnsley Coun Steve Green attended the event to congratulate the winners and to present some of the ten awards.
Four commendations were also presented to staff and officers who attended the ceremony, which was led by the District Commander Chief Superintendent Scott Green.
The Jan Parton Police Staff Outstanding Achievement Award was won by building engineer Paul Sketchley; the Crawford Roebuck Trophy was won by DS Paul Brook; PCSO of the Year was won by PCSO Tony Thorpe; the Don Betton Student Officer of the Year Award was won by Eddie Peglau; Special Constable of the Year was won by SC James Hilton; Investigator of the Year was won by DC Samantha Newton; Leader of the Year was won by Inspector Andy Padgett; the Bravery Award was awarded to PC Inderpal Sandhu, PC Jack Rich and PC Josh Ingram; the Community Service Award was won by PC Ross Greenwood; the Team Award was won by Barnsley Safer Neighbourhood Services.
DC Nicola Milner, DC James Cave, PCSO Tony Thorpe and partnership analyst Harriet Hirst were all presented with District Commander’s Commendations on the evening.
Coun Jenny Platts said: “We are delighted that the hard work and dedication of the partnership approach between South Yorkshire Police and Barnsley Council has been recognised.
“The Safer Neighbourhood Service team take pride in protecting the most vulnerable within our communities and help to make Barnsley a safer and more enjoyable place for everyone.”
Ch Supt Green said: “Your strong work ethic, resilience and dedication is recognised by all departments and partners.
“You can be proud of your efforts and achievements and are worthy recipients of these awards.”
