DANGEROUS drivers at a Barnsley retail centre were cautioned by police over the weekend.

Police officers were called to Cortonwood Retail Park, a hot spot for complaints about reckless driving, on Sunday night.

The area has been at the centre of a fierce debate between car enthusiasts who meet to socialise and show off their motors, and those who choose to partake in dangerous drag races on the nearby Dearne Valley Parkway.

“A number of vehicles were issued with Section 59 warnings and other motorists were also issued with traffic offence reports,” said a police spokesman.

“If you are going to come to Cortonwood then it really is quite simple make sure the vehicle you are driving is road legal and, more importantly, do not treat the Dearne Valley Parkway as a race track.”

Police regularly patrol the area to ensure those who meet in the area are doing so legally.
