A BOY who was critically injured in a collision involving a car that was reportedly stolen from a house in Penistone has died.

At around 11pm on Friday April 19, police received reports that a suspected stolen silver BMW was travelling at high speed along Brinsworth Lane, Rotherham.

The car was then involved in a collision with 15-year-old Ryan Durkin, who was walking along the road.

Ryan was taken to hospital where he remained in a critical condition, but died on Saturday April 27.

A 24-year-old man remains remanded in custody charged in connection to the incident.

Mitchell Hughes, of no fixed address, is currently charged with causing serious injury through dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision.

He is also charged with aggravated burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and section 18 wounding in relation to a separate incident on Friday April 12 where a silver BMW was reportedly stolen from a house in Penistone, Barnsley.

Shortly after the collision, a black Seat Ibiza, travelling in the same direction, also hit Ryan.

A 17-year-old man who was driving the Seat Ibiza remains released under investigation.

Ryan’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers and have asked that their privacy continue to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.

Police remain keen to hear from anyone who has information about what happened, dashcam footage, or who saw either of the vehicles in the area prior to the collision.
