A MAJOR reorganisation of policing in Barnsley will mean bobbies working from rooms in schools or libraries, according to police bosses.

The overhaul to South Yorkshire Police is being introduced as part of £45m budget cuts over the next five years and expected to come into force in June.

Chief Constable David Crompton said some neighbourhood police officers could operate from rooms in schools or libraries rather than community stations.

He said: "I think our view is we need to have places we work from out in the community and they may not always be police stations, because actually that might provide us with an opportunity to make some saving."
