SOUTH Yorkshire Police civilian workers are preparing to walk out for 24 hours in a dispute over pay.

The union Unison balloted members who voted for strike action towards the end of last year.

Workers were due to walk out in a national strike on Monday, December 22 but suspended the action to allow further negotiations between union and police chiefs.

Unison said members would stage 24-hour strike starting at 7am on Friday (January 23)  unless a pay deal can be reached with employers.

That will be followed by a month of action short of a further strike.

Unison members include 999 call handlers, police community support officers, scenes of crime officers, fingerprint experts, financial investigators and detention officers.
