BREWING has restarted at Two Roses Brewery in Darton.

Having been sold by former owner James Taylor due to ill health, Kingsley Veal is now running the award-winning brewery and two pale ales - Sprocket and Deckchair - have made their return to The Wentworth Arms and The Talbot Inn at Mapplewell.

"It's a momentous occasion as the beer is now in casks and ready for sale," Kingsley told the Chronicle. "The two ales were previously good sellers so we've brewed from the original recipe book and rebranded them.

"We took over around March so it's been a few months in the planning, but last weekend was a step in the right direction for the brewery."

James, who suffered brain damage last year as a result of limbic encephalitis - a condition where the body's own antibodies attack part of the brain - said it was great news the brewery is back up and running. "It's absolutely great and I'm quite excited about it," he said.

"Following my illness, it took me a long time to get my head around the fact that I'm not as strong mentally or physically, so I couldn't continue with the brewery.

"It's emotional as I see the brewery as my baby, but to have someone like Kingsley in charge is brilliant as he's passionate and determined to make it a success."
