A POSTBOX which has served the people of Shafton for more than 40 years has been stolen.

The postbox on Engine Lane, Shafton, was attached to a lamppost by metal clips. It was stolen two weeks ago.

A resident of Engine Lane said they had contacted the Post Office to report the theft and told they were already aware.

A Royal Mail spokesman said: "We have about 115,000 post boxes around the country and thankfully thefts of postboxes are relatively rare.

"Stolen boxes are replaced as soon as possible to minimise any inconvenience to customers.

"We take the theft of postboxes very seriously and work closely with the police and our security team to investigate any incident."
