Central midfielder Brad Potts believes Barnsley head coach Daniel Stendel will be able to keep the five senior players in his position happy all season.

The 24-year-old played out of position on the right wing against Oxford United with Alex Mowatt and Kenny Dougall starting centrally while George Moncur and Cameron McGeehan were brought off the bench. Potts told the Chronicle: "We have got a big squad and there will be some weeks when the gaffer rotates.

"Everyone wants to play but we know there are a lot games and the whole squad will be getting used. The lads who are playing have got to try to keep the shirt and the ones on the bench are trying to break in. Cam and Moncs are proven in this league so when they are coming off the bench it's really good for us and teams we are playing will be worried about it. I have played on the right quite a bit before so it's not totally new.I am just happy to play."

Potts, who said in pre-season that he was targeting at least ten goals this season, scored the third in a 4-0 win. He said: I just want the team to do well but, on a personal note, I am really happy to have scored. I was brought in to score goals and I want to get as many as possible. At Blackpool, I got double figures for goals and assists in a season so I would love to do that again this season."

Potts was delighted with the start but is not getting carried away. He said: "If you come down from the Championship and win 4-0, everybody from the outside is probably thinking 'it's too easy for them'. But we know it's only one game and anything can happen on the first day. The quality is there within the team and we know that, if we get it right, we will turn over teams like we did with Oxford. We just have to be consistent and try to do that every week because, if we do, we will have a very good chance of going up."
