A TOWN centre primary school has been found to be a 'good' for the first time since it opened eight years ago.

Two years ago Joseph Locke Primary was deemed to require improvement, but in a recent visit school inspectors noted improvements in every area.

A report said strong and effective leadership at all levels, including governance, had driven rapid improvement.

The inspectors found the headteacher's leadership had had a very positive impact on teaching quality and that pupil's progress had speeded up and standards were rising as a result.

The report said he had 'rapidly transformed the school for the better'.
