TV PRESENTER Sam Nixon has spoken about the fun he’s had bringing a classic kids TV show back to the small screen.

Crackerjack was shown on the BBC from 1955 to 1984 and famously saw children struggle to hold onto prizes and cabbages.

The show returned last month and Sam spoke to the Chronicle this week about taking on the TV classic and reviving it for a new generation along with his presenting partner Mark Rhodes.

“Mark and I had a fantastic time filming the show, it was amazing,” said Sam, 33, who grew up in Monk Bretton and still lives in Barnsley.

“The show was well-loved and it was a lot to live up to but the whole process was so much fun and we are so happy that a new generation gets to enjoy the show.”

Crackerjack is shown on CBBC on Fridays at 6pm. You can catch up on BBC iPlayer.
