THE presenter of a new five part BBC Two series Steve Elias is ‘thrilled’ he chose to make its first episode in Barnsley.

Our Dancing Town shows Steve preparing hundreds of Barnsley people from miners to police officers to dance through the town centre.

West End choreographer Steve told the Chronicle: “What I found about Barnsley people is once they’re involved, that’s it, they’re in. They’re passionate, they’re committed, they never miss a rehearsal.

“I’m working class, they were working class, and I did feel this bond with people.”

Steve said Our Dancing Town definitely paints the town in a ‘very positive light’.

“It’s a very warm story all about positivity and the people who make Barnsley special,” he said. “Because Barnsley was my first town of the series it’s a very special place for me.”

Our Dancing Town is on BBC Two, Tuesday, 9pm.
