A PRESSURE group set up to combat homelessness in the borough is calling on the council to use empty shops as overnight accommodation for those with nowhere to go.

'Stamp Out Homelessness in Barnsley' is the brainchild of Kimberley Peake, of Elsecar.

She has big ambitions for the new group and is hoping it will be able to put pressure on the council into helping tackle the 'rife' problem of homelessness in Barnsley by making good use of empty shops.

The 28-year-old was spurred in to taking action after reading in the Chronicle about how some of Barnsley's rough sleepers are resorting to sleeping in commercial wheelie bins to find shelter at night.
