A PRIMARY school has been rated ‘good’ by Ofsted in its first inspection since becoming an academy.

Elsecar Holy Trinity Primary Academy was rated as ‘good’ across the board. Before it became an academy the school was in special measures, Ofsted’s worst category of failing schools.

The school became part of the Pride Multi-Academy Trust in October 2015.

The latest report said leaders in the school are driving improvements and are well informed on what they need to do to build on strengths and tackle any weaknesses.

The report stated: “Senior leaders have built a strong team of skilled and committed staff who place pupils at the heart of what they do. Children make a good start to their education from different starting points, in an engaging, busy, safe and happy environment.

“Pupils enjoy learning and attend well. They value the friendly and inclusive ethos in the school. Pupils play well together and work co-operatively in lessons.”

Head teacher Steve Silverwood said: “The good outcome is a tremendous achievement the whole school community truly deserves. I would like to congratulate all of our pupils for the way in which they conducted themselves during the inspection.

“The inspectors experienced firsthand pupils’ good behaviour, the fact they are polite and welcoming and the pride they take in their school.

“This is something we are very proud of. I would like to also thank parents, for their continued support and contribution to the school and throughout the inspection process.

“Over the past three years the school has gone from strength to strength and this is down to a fantastic team of staff who have worked hard to help us achieve this result.”
