SPENDING a penny is expensive and time-consuming in Cleethorpes, a Barnsley primary school has discovered.

About 80 infant pupils from Summer Lane Primary are due to spend a day at the seaside later this month on a school trip to Cleethorpes.

Staff have left no stone unturned in planning every element of their trip - including consulting the local council about where all 80 of the children will be able to go for a wee.

School visits co-ordinator Stephen Morgan said all the children and staff are very excited about their day out.

But he was dismayed to learn that there will be a barrier in their way - literally - when young bladders start to bulge - because they will have to queue outside while each child pays 30p to get through the barrier and into the toilet block.
