A PRIMARY school where nearly half the children were missing breakfast has won a share of a £175,000 grant to make sure all pupils get the right start to the day.

Every child at The Forest Academy, formerly Kendray Primary School, now has access to a healthy breakfast.

The school is supported by Magic Breakfast, the national charity that is trying to bring breakfasts to every child in the country and this week announced £175,000 in grant from the People's Postcode Lottery.

Thanks to a dedicated group of parent volunteers, The Forest is able to serve more than 140 pupils their breakfast every day of the week.

Principal Sam Bailey said: "We were concerned that almost 40 per cent of our children were arriving every day without a breakfast inside them. It is very difficult for young children to begin the process of learning while feeling hungry.

"We are delighted that our partnership with Magic Breakfast allows us to offer all our children a free breakfast and a chance to begin the day well fed, happy and ready to learn."
