STEPHANIE Peacock MP recently held a meeting to discuss how a £30,000 budget on keeping kids healthy has been spent.

She met with the FareShare charity to discuss their work with Barnsley Council on a campaign called ‘Healthy Holidays’.

The campaign was launched by Feeding Britain after a grant of £280,000 was given to them by the Department for Education.

A total of £30,000 of the grant money was given to Barnsley to fund this campaign in the town.

The money has been spent on working with local community groups and organisations to provide activities, like arts and crafts, reading and seaside trips, for school children throughout the summer holidays.

Stephanie said: “As a former teacher, I know how important it is for young people to remain active, healthy and happy throughout the summer holidays.

“That’s why I’m so pleased to see FareShare and Barnsley Council taking such a proactive approach to providing this brilliant programme to fill the six week holiday. From my discussion with FareShare, it’s clear that this campaign has made a huge difference, with demand significantly more than expected, and I’ll be pushing the government to provide further funding for important projects like this here in Barnsley.”
