IT’S that time of year again - time to celebrate all that is great and good about our town and show what makes you Proud of Barnsley.

The Chronicle is this week launching the Proud of Barnsley awards 2018, by giving you the chance to nominate the town’s unsung heroes.

Last year’s glitzy ceremony was the biggest and best yet - and this year’s looks set to top it.

For the first time, the awards ceremony will be held at the Metrodome, in the arena under the marquee.

The ceremony will be held on Friday November 16 and will once again celebrate the people who take the time and care to support our town and the people in it, those who use their own time to volunteer and those who have overcome some of the toughest of situations.

Proud of Barnsley was launched by the Chronicle and Barnsley Central MP Dan Jarvis in 2012 to inspire all generations to contribute to the good of the town and its people.

There are 15 categories: Hospital Hero, Children’s Champion, Young Superstar, Community Hero, Sporting Achievement, Start-Up of the Year, Community Group, School of the Year, Triumph Over Adversity, Exceptional Achievement, Carer of the Year, Charity Fundraiser, Volunteer of the Year, Love Where You Live, Charity Fundraising Team.

There will also be the Mayor’s Best of Barnsley Award.

None of last year's nominees, finalists or winners saw what they do as worthy of winning an award, and don't consider what they do to be anything out of the ordinary. Those who nominated them disagreed.

Entries are now open, and there are a couple of ways to submit nominations.

You can e-mail your nominations to lynsey.bradford@barnsley-chronicle.co.uk - please include your name, address and phone number.

Please also include the name, address and phone number of the person you are nominating, the category you are nominating them in and tell us why.

Nominations can also be submitted by post to Proud of Barnsley Awards, Lynsey Bradford, 47 Church Street, Barnsley, S70 2AS.

Please ask the person/group for permission to nominate them for an award before putting them forward.
