THE developer behind a controversial scheme to convert a former Brierley pub into apartments has applied to Barnsley Council to make alterations to its design.

Dyson Homes Limited, which bought The Three Horseshoes for £180,000 last spring, submitted its plan to transform the building into seven apartments in November last year and approval was granted in February.

But now the Denby Dale-based firm has applied for permission to alter the interior’s layout, and wants to amend the building’s interior to give better access to the apartments.

As well as the apartments, which will have a mixture of one and two bedrooms, two four-bedroom properties will be built on the car park but now Dyson Homes want to alter

A planning statement on behalf said no access changes will have to be made, as the plot’s current accessibility off Barnsley Road is deemed suitable for a small-scale development.

“The proposed development seeks to retain the existing building which is a recognisable landmark in the area,” it said. “The development secures the long-term use of the site and the building and therefore protects the character of the area.

“This site offers the opportunity to meet the growth in demand for housing with a design proposal carefully considered to fit with the character of the surrounding area and to ensure there is no impact on existing amenities.”
