BARNSLEY Youth Choir is hoping for more success at this year's European Choir Games and is once again calling for the 'fantastic support' of the community to help it get there.

It is hoping to take a number of younger members to the competition in Magdeburg, Germany in July which is estimated to cost about £30,000.

Volunteer James Dickson, who helps run the choir, said fundraising for the trip had started but said donations and sponsorship are welcome.

The choir has also been granted charity status which means it will be able to access funding which was previously unavailable.

James said: "We were bowled over by the support we received last year for the World Choir Games and there is no expectation that people are going to help us out again, but we were extremely grateful and if we can get anything like the support we got last year it would be amazing."
