LITTLE swimmers in their pyjamas had a splashing time raising lots of money for a very special charity.

Youngsters who go to Barnsley branches of a swimming school helped to bring in nearly £2,400 for the Tiny Hearts appeal, a special campaign launched by Barnsley Hospital.

Wakefield-based Puddle Ducks hosts a charity PJ week each year in which children raise money for a local cause by learning water safety while wearing their favourite pyjamas.

This year, Tiny Hearts is Puddle Ducks’ chosen charity. The aim of the appeal is to raise £1m for the relocation and development of a new neonatal unit.

Faye Burrell, owner of Puddle Ducks - which has Barnsley branches at Greenacre School and DW Fitness said: “Little ones love swimming in their pyjamas, but besides raising money for the Tiny Hearts Appeal, there is a serious reason behind the fun event, as they are learning a valuable life skill.

“Most people come into danger around water while fully clothed, being in pyjamas provides a good indication of what it would be like and gives them confidence and skills should they ever be in a dangerous situation.

“PJ Week was a huge amount of fun and a learning experience for children and parents.

“We are so proud of all the children who have raised so much money for the Tiny Hearts Appeal.”

A cheque will be handed over to the hospital at the unit’s grand opening event on November 8.
