THIS year’s Penistone Show mascot is Betty the Pig and school children who helped select the name were given the opportunity to see the livestock up close with a visit from the organising committee.
They visited 11 schools in the area to give a presentation on the show during the spring term and children were given the chance to give their preferred name for the mascot.
That resulted in a return visit last week to St John’s primary school in Penistone and Millhouse Green primary with Betty, who will also be making an appearance at the mayor’s gala in June, when children will have the chance to see how much she has grown.
