PUPILS from a Barnsley school have been out to Romania to help disadvantaged children and young people living in a remote part of the country.

A dozen students from Holy Trinity school at Athersley returned from Romania last Friday after a week taking part in some life-changing volunteering with the charity Cry in the Dark.

The trip has involved them working with child and adult orphans and in the Casa Lumina hospice, a residential care home for young people with special needs.

They have also visited a Roma gypsy camp, been involved in a building project to insulate a home with polystyrene and gone on daily visits with nurses. The pupils also spent time at an institution for disabled adults.
