Barnsley have not added to their first team squad during deadline day but are hoping to bring in at least one free agent after the January transfer window.

The Reds attempted to recruit players during the final day, with the focus mainly on a loanee centre-back and the majority of the players spoken to being British based.

But they did not manage to sign any more first teamers and their senior centre-backs are now January recruit Michael Sollbauer, Mads Andersen and Aapo Halme, who head coach Gerhard Struber has been playing in midfield. Clubs can still sign players who are without a club.

None of the fringe players left the club such as Dani Pinillos, Dimitri Cavare or Mamadou Thiam.

The Reds brought in two players for their under 23s squad on deadline day. Ethan Erhahon, a Scotland youth international who can play at left-back or left midfield, arrived on a six-month loan from St Mirren for whom he has played 17 games in the Scottish Premier League.

Ali Omar, a 20-year-old centre-back who was a free agent after being at Stevenage and Queens Park Rangers, has signed until the end of the season while the Reds have an option to extend it until for a further year.
