THE former Raleys offices in Barnsley town centre will be turned into apartments under new proposals to renovate the historic building.

Hopwood House is the selling agent for the Church Street building, which is being marketed as a whole development and carries a price tag of £2.9m.

The proposal is to convert the building, which was originally the headquarters of Barnsley Building Society, into 39 apartments, consisting of 28 one bedroom apartments, eight-two bedroom apartments and three studios.

A spokesman for the Manchester-based property investment firm said a planning application has been submitted and is in the advanced stages.
