WORRIED there’s no lager or beer left?

The heatwave and World Cup leaving you gasping for a pint of fizzy tipple?

The Co2 shortage is an unprecedented occurrence but it’s not as disastrous as you think. Now is the time to discover the beauty of real ale if you haven’t already.

South Yorkshire has a variety of real ale breweries who produce an array of different ales. Long gone are the days of warm pints in a back street boozer, you can now sample the many different styles available from milds to goldens and bitters to pales all perfectly brewed and with a blend to suit every pallet.

With Britain basking in the hottest temperatures of the year so far the temptation to enjoy a few pints has never been more apparent.

But which one will you like? We spoke to Christy Hughes of multi award winning Barnsley brewers, Acorn Brewery who gave us some advice on enjoying a refreshing real ale pint.

Acorn Brewery has been producing the finest real ales since 2003 when they produced their flagship, award winning Barnsley Bitter. Christy Hughes, director of business development, said: “We are very passionate about the beers we brew and ensure that only quality products are produced. Each month we release two or three signature beers, which always go down a treat.

“If you want a traditional pint of bitter our Barnsley Bitter, is a darker, chestnut colour with a rich, malty, bitter flavour.

“If you prefer a pint more cleansing and fresh then something like our Barnsley Gold offers a more hoppy, citrus aroma”.

“With an abundance of golden and pale ales available there’s no need to think that real ale is just a drink enjoyed by old men in the local social club”, says Christy.

“With more and more people reaching out to try real ale as a drink to enjoy through the summer, you can now enjoy the clean crisp finish of a Blonde or the grapefruit and citrus delights in our Fiesta brew.”

Since 2008, nearly 1,000 more breweries have popped up across the UK making real ale a vastly more sought after drink. It’s not just served in a pint either. Bottled real ale is extremely popular and if you want your ale to improve you can let it mature in a cool dark place.

To sample Acorn Breweries selection of fantastic real ales you can pop along to The Old No.7 pub in Barnsley town centre or order a few bottled beers from their website acorn-brewery.co.uk
