Since taking up the sport two years ago, Rebecca Brown has established herself as one of the rising prospects in British clay pigeon shooting while also losing eight and a half stone in 2018.

The 23-year-old from Darton grew up around the sport, with both her father and grandfather keen shooters, but only started competing in 2016.

It has been a rapid rise with a series of wins culminating in success at the Northern Championships where she won both the all-round and sporttrap categories. She followed that with success in the Yorkshire Championship, winning the sportstrap event.

Rebecca, who works in a gun shop in Crofton, said: “I am really happy with the way my shooting is going. I was delighted to win the Northern Championships and I’ve been called up for the North of England team as well. My goal for next year is to be called up for the full England team. I want to be the best in the world one day. Unfortunately, my category isn’t in the Olympics but I would love to compete in the World Championships.”

Rebecca believes her rapid weight loss has also helped her sport. She said: “I just wanted to be a healthier person but it’s improved my shooting as well. My stamina has improved a lot. I just did it by eating well and doing exercise. I’m really enjoying shooting, it’s a really good community. I’d like to thank my sponsor David Thompson from Driven Sporting.”
