POLICE and customs officials have seized two vehicles thought to have been run on red diesel.
They were found at a property on Westfield Road, Brampton, by officers investigating diesel thefts at an industrial unit in Rotherham.
Containers which appeared to have remnants of red diesel inside were also found.
Officers from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) were called to inspect the vehicles, a Vauxhall Insignia and a grey Landrover Freelander, which were found to contain red diesel in the fuel tanks - illegal in vehicles which are used on the road.
The vehicles were seized and returned on payment of £1,466 in restoration fees and charges.
Acting Det Sgt Andrew Shaw said: "This incident should serve as a warning to people who flout the law and use red diesel. People who use red diesel can cause damage to their vehicles' engine, and may also be supporting and encouraging criminality and organised crime."
Three men have been arrested in relation to fuel theft and have been released on bail.
