Progression in the FA Cup against Millwall is important and Paul Heckingbottom claims they can take confidence from winning there already this season.

Barnsley take on the Londoners tomorrow and are looking to make it to the fourth round for the first time since 2013.

A Tom Bradshaw double and Mamadou Thiam's penalty secured a 3-1 victory at The Den in September and it ensured five straight wins over The Lions which includes the memorable League One play-off final at Wembley in 2016.

Heckingbottom said: "We can take confidence from it (winning there) – definitely.

"It's always a tough place to go but we can take confidence from the fact that we won in the league."

Heckingbottom said the FA Cup remains a big priority to him as a manager and he would not make changes for the sake of it.

He said: "We want to win every game.

"Nobody would get a game for the sake of it. There would have to be a reason for it whether that be to an individual player as a reward or a as a test or looking at something tactically. There would have to be some long-term gain from any change or decision that we make.

"The furthest I ever got in the FA Cup was the fifth round so I never really had a big long run. It'd be nice because it's a great competition. Reputations are forged in it."

Barnsley exited the competition in the third round last year after losing 2-1 to Blackpool after extra time in the replay at Oakwell. Brad Potts, then at Blackpool, played in the first game which ended 0-0.

The replay was taken to extra time after Angus MacDonald levelled the scores after Kelvin Mellor's opener.

Bright Osayi-Samuel netted the winner in the 120th minute.

Millwall, promoted last year through the play-offs, have taken to the Championship well.

They are currently 15th, six points above the drop zone and four above 19th placed Barnsley. The Lions' home form has been impressive all season and is the sixth best in the league.

At The Den they have won seven, drawn three and lost three but they are yet to win on the road this season with only Birmingham City picking up fewer points away from home.

It's the first FA cup meeting between the two sides since 1925.
