Barnsley may add a third person to their first team coaching staff after Jamie Clapham was confirmed as Paul Heckingbottom's right hand man until the end of the season.

Head coach Heckingbottom said he was pleased that Clapham's initial short-term stint had been extended. He told the Chronicle: "It's something I can forget about now and start concentrating on the games again which is good. It's a weight off my mind.

"Claps works hard and gives everything to the cause just as the players do.  I have been trying to get it sorted for a while and we are all happy it is done.

"It's looking like it will just be me and him for the season but we're always looking for good coaches, just like we are always looking for good players.  The mindset of everyone at the football club is to get better. If there is an opportunity to improve the coaching staff then we will always look at it."

Clapham came in initially on a short-term basis after former assistant Tommy Wright was sacked in September.
