Two goals in six second half minutes saw Barnsley crash to a 2-0 defeat at high-flying MK Dons on Saturday.

The Reds had been much better than in their loss at Doncaster week earlier but Dele Alli and Will Grigg scored either side of the hour-mark and the Dons could then have won by a far great margin as they missed a host of chances.

Barnsley are now just two points and three places above the relegation zone and have not won away in the league for more than two months. Manager Danny Wilson made two changes to the side that lost 1-0 at Doncaster seven days earlier. The suspended Mason Holgate was replaced by George Williams while the injured Dale Jennings and replaced by Ben Pearson, who recovered from injury.

Milton Keynes lad Williams, who was making his first professional start, saved the Reds on four minutes when he cleared off the line after Dean Bowditch rounded goalkeeper Ross Turnbull and shot from a tight angle. Williams later gifted Daniel Powell the ball in a great position but the MK player's shot was weak and easily stopped by Turnbull.

Barnsley's Milan Lalkovic tested home goalkeeper David Martin from a tight angle on the left side of the box after ten minutes which was their only real chance of the game.

Dons had a goal ruled out on 34 minutes as Grigg tapped in after Dele Alli's shot hit the post then bounced to him off Turnbull's head. Both sides had chances in first half stoppage time as George Waring headed over Conor Hourihane's free-kick then Turnbull made another save from Carl Baker's low 15-yard effort.

Alli got the opener 12 minutes after the break with a low shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box after a cross was headed straight to him.

Grigg almost turned in a Baker cross for 2-0 seconds later but Williams blocked. The striker did not have to wait long for his goal as he brilliantly brought down a long ball, skipped past Turnbull and slid the ball into the empty net.

Turnbull then made superb saves from Baker and Jonson Clarke-Harris, who is on loan from Rotherham and came on along with former Barnsley striker Devante Cole after the second goal. Grigg then fired straight at Turnbull from 15 yards out when well-placed and clipped the ball wide in the six-yard box when he looked certain to score.
