Barnsley suffered just their second defeat of the season, going down 2-0 against Charlton Athletic at The Valley.

The hosts scored early in both halves to frustrate Daniel Stendel's men who had picked up ten points from the last possible 12.

The result saw the Reds drop from third to fifth in League One and they are seven points behind leaders Portsmouth who have played a game more.

Adam Davies and Kenny Dougall came back into the side following international duty along with fit-again Dani Pinillos. Dropping out were Jack Walton, Mike Bahre and Ben Williams.

Karlan Grant fired the hosts ahead off the post in the eighth minute. Barnsley tried to respond but Alex Mowatt's long range effort was well-saved by Jed Steer and they went into the break 1-0 down.

Grant scored another soon after the break and, despite the introduction of top-scorer Kieffer Moore off the bench, the visitors could not get back into the game.
