Barnsley were beaten 2-1 in their local derby at Leeds United, stretching their winless run to four matches.

Leeds scored ten minutes either side of the break to go 2-0 up then their left-back Charlie Taylor netted an own goal to let the Reds back into the game. But Barnsley could not level and remain tenth in the Championship going into the international break.

Head coach Paul Heckingbottom, joined by new assistant Jamie Clapham following the sacking of Tommy Wright, made three changes to the side that netted a last-minute leveller against Aston Villa in midweek.

Sam Winnall, Adam Armstrong and Adam Hammill, all dropped for the Villa draw, came back into the team in place of Marley Watkins, Tom Bradshaw and Sam Morsy as the Reds reverted to 4-4-2.

Leeds took the lead after 35 uneventful minutes which Barnsley had just shaded with Adam Hammill testing Robert Green from 20 yards while Josh Scowen and Conor Hourihane fired wide from further out.

The hosts' only chance before the goal was when visiting goalkeeper Adam Davies passed the ball straight to Hadi Sacko leaving his net totally exposed but Angus MacDonald made a crucial tackle.

Leeds eventually took the lead in the 36th minute when Kyle Bartley got between Davies and his defence to turn in a Pablo Hernandez corner from close range.

United tried to double their lead before the break with Davies catching a long-range Hernandez shot and Chris Wood heading Charlie Taylor's cross wide when well-placed.

The hosts doubled their lead ten minutes after the break when the Reds appealed for offside as Hernandez went clean through and beat Davies with a good finish. Chris Wood almost got a third seconds later but he blazed over following a pull-back from Sacko.

Instead it was the Reds who got the next goal with Cole Kpekawa's cross being turned into his own net by Charlie Taylor with 20 minutes to play. Davies soon stopped Leeds restoring their two-goal advantage with a great save down to his right from substitute Marcus Antonsson who had been put clean through by Hernandez.

The Reds were on top for the remainder of the match with Hourihane having a shot blocked from close range before Pontus Jansson cleared off the line from Scowen's low 25-yard effort.
