SCHOOLCHILDREN who took part in a community life coaching project have been awarded certificates by the Reds' head coach Paul Heckingbottom.
The Raising Aspirations in Barnsley programme, which aims to inspire and encourage local school children to raise their aspirational life goals, has reached its first anniversary and marked the occasion with a celebratory award ceremony.
Sixty pupils from Holy Trinity, Dearne ALC and Horizon schools currently take part in the project working with life coaches who act as mentors, helping to set goals and find the best way to overcome any challenges.
They were awarded their certificates by Paul Heckingbottom, Barnsley FC's head coach, at an event held at the Barnsley College Cube Construction Centre. The thinking behind the project is to boost the employment goals of young people and, in the long term, to improve their academic attainment.
It focuses on building a relationship of trust and respect, and encouraging pupils to develop self-belief. The programme is managed by Barnsley College enterprise team, and the coaches are volunteers from local businesses and the Barnsley community.
