Barnsley have made their second signing of the week by securing Dover frontman Stefan Payne's signature.

Striker Payne, 24, has signed a two year contract, with the option of a third year, after impressing for the south coast side last season where he scored 23 times in all competitions.

Payne has had a nomadic career playing for 11 clubs so far including professional sides Fulham and Gillingham before dropping into non-league football with Sutton United, Ebbsfleet, Hornchurch and Dover who he helped into the play-offs in the National League last season.

Caretaker boss Paul Heckingbottom told the Barnsley FC website: “Stefan is someone we’ve had our eye on for a while and he has all the right attributes as a striker.

"He’s scored a lot of goals over the past few seasons and will prove a good addition to our front-line in the future.”

Payne is the second player to sign for Barnsley this week after Barnet right-back and right winger Andy Yiadom signed on Monday.
