Barnsley’s players are determined to bounce back from their second defeat of the season at Charlton Athletic with victory at Shrewsbury Town tomorrow.

The Reds went 2-0 in London on Saturday and now travel to Shropshire for a midweek fixture. Assistant coach Andreas Winkler said: “The players said after the match that they wanted to be better on Tuesday, which is a good thing. They have a lot of self-confidence, they are aware of their quality and every player will show their quality in Shrewsbury. If they lose, then they want to show in the next match that it is not going to happen again.”

Left-back Dani Pinillos is suspended after picking up his fifth booking of the season on Saturday. Teenager Ben Williams is one candidate to to replace him, having played the previous two matches, or Ryan Hedges who has filled in at left-back. Winkler said: “Ben and Ryan are two options or maybe we will play with a back three.”

Zeki Fryers and Lloyd Isgrove are both out injured. Striker Cauley Woodrow and midfielder Mike Bahre have returned to training while Kieffer Moore returned as a substitute on Saturday.

Winkler said: “Cauley is back in training. It’s a little bit too early for him to play tomorrow. Mike is back in training then we have to see how his muscles react and if he can play in Shrewsbury. Kieffer should be fit to start. If he can play for 45 minutes, he can start a game. It is important when your top-scorer comes back. We have a young squad and Kieffer is a leader for us, but he also increases our quality.”

Shrewsbury are 18th, just a point above the relegation zone having won only two of their 14 matches. Winkler said: “We expect an opponent who is almost on the bottom so they will fight for every metre, they will tackle and it will be a tough fight. We have to bring our style of football to them and then we have a good chance to win. But they will be dangerous.”

Charlton scored early in both halves at The Valley. Winkler said: “We are disappointed with the goals we conceded and we know we could have avoided these chances. We will try to do better in the next match.  We played a really good match but we made too many mistakes and normally we don’t do that. We talked to the manager of Charlton and he said they played their best match. Every opponent team gets a really good performance against us.

“We missed some forward runs into the box and the finishing in the final third was not our best.”

Midfielder Alex Mowatt added: "We were in on Sunday and we did a post-match analysis of the game and how we thought it went. It was just one of those games when things didn’t go our way, we have to put it behind us and move on.

"We need to bounce back. We want to get promoted in the top two and, when you have a bad game, you need to react. Every team in this league can be a danger."
