Barnsley came from behind to edge a thrilling Yorkshire derby 3-2.

Goals from Tom Bradshaw, Ryan Kent and Conor Hourihane settled the game in Barnsley's favour.

Gethin Jones, signed on loan from Everton midweek, made a surprise start at left-back with former Leeds player Aidy White on the bench.

Hourihane, who continues to be linked with a move to Aston Villa, also started.

Leeds went in front with the first effort on goal in the match.

Former Reds loanee Chris Wood beat his marker from Pablo Hernandez's corner to turn in on 18 minutes.

The goal sparked crowd trouble with disturbances in the Ponty End and away end before police and stewards intervened

Wood almost made it two with a header minutes later but Jones was in the right place to clear off the line.

Marley Watkins had Barnsley's first effort on goal but the shot with his weaker left foot was easily saved by Leeds 'keeper Rob Green.

Angus MacDonald's header was then kept out by Green after the defender rose highest from Kent's free kick.

The Reds went in level through Bradshaw's looping header after Adam Armstrong had put in a teasing cross following Hourihane's intelligent free kick.

The game was almost turned completely around in added on time but MacDonald's looping header went just wide of the far post.

Barnsley did not have to wait long until they had the lead. On 48 minutes, Kent controlled Watkins' cross, beat his man with a smart turn and then smashed the ball beyond Green into the bottom corner.

The lead was extended on 58 minutes with Hourihane curling sublimely into the top corner from a 25-yard free kick.

Leeds got back to within a goal on 68 minutes after Roberts was judged to have handled the ball in the area by referee Mike Dean. Wood sent Adam Davies the wrong way from the spot.

Bradshaw was then denied by some brave keeping by Green and Souleymane Doukara's volley was hit straight at Davies.

Leeds had late chances to level the game but Kemar Roofe could only bundle his effort wide of goal and Stuart Dallas' volley whistled wide.
