Barnsley FC have put 'certain staff across all departments' on furlough leave during the coronavirus crisis.

The staff will be eligible to 80 per cent of their wages up to £2,500 per month under the government's scheme.

A club statement read: "Due to the unprecedented impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Barnsley Football Club will utilise the Government’s furlough scheme, for members of staff unable to work at this time.

"With no clarity as to when football will return to Oakwell, the club’s operations have temporarily ceased. To withstand this difficult period and protect jobs, certain staff across all departments will be added to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. Throughout this period of uncertainty, the general well-being of staff will remain the club’s top priority."
