Barnsley went 2-0 up inside ten minutes but lost 3-2 in their first home friendly of the season against Championship club West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday evening.

Headers from Lloyd Isgrove and Kieffer Moore put the Reds ahead but the visitors scored three in seven minutes either side of the break.

The Reds revealed their new black away kit for the 2018/19 season before the game, which was against a side managed by their former centre-back Darren Moore.

Brad Potts had already dragged a good chance wide before Isgrove opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a near post header from Alex Mowatt's right-wing corner which should have been claimed by goalkeeper Jonathan Bond. It was 2-0 four minutes later when left-back Dani Pinillos supplied a fine cross which Moore headed in off the left post from 12 yards out.

Barnsley almost added to their lead as Bradshaw glanced over a header from left winger Mamadou Thiam then Moore dragged a 12-yard volley wide after a run and cross by Potts.

West Brom had chances due to Barnsley errors as goalkeeper Jack Walton lost the ball but he and Ethan Pinnock made fine blocks. Walton then overhit a pass to the edge of the box which Pinnock could not control and the shot was easily saved.

The visitors eventually pulled one back when Chris Brunt's right-wing free-kick was headed in by Hal Robson-Kanu one minute before half-time.

It was 2-2 30 seconds into the second half when Pinnock lost the ball on the edge of his box to Morrison who smashed into the top right corner. Another piece of poor defending put the Baggies ahead six minutes later when Dimitri Cavare sliced into his own net from a right-wing cross.

The match then quietened down until Potts saw a 25-yard shot pushed out of the top right corner by Bond then Harvey Barnes – who came off the bench with another ex-Red Martin Cranie – forced Walton into a decent save diving low to his left.

Moore then sent a free-kick into the midriff of the visiting goalkeeper who then sprang to his right to make a much better save from a 20-yard shot by substitute Cameron McGeehan.

Moore should have levelled in the 90th minute but he blazed over the bar when in yards of space in the West Brom box after a fine run and pass by Bradshaw.
